WHAT WE DO All About Kids LA ("AAK") is a non-profit public benefit corporation that is uniquely designed to serve children in Los Angeles, ages 7-18. Our stated goal is to assist these children in building self-esteem to succeed, not only on stage, but in life. Participants in AAK represent multi-cultural backgrounds and are evenly divided between male and female. The Program meets all day every Saturday and includes two Sessions per year. Each Session lasts approximately 14 weeks and includes 60-70 children. At the conclusion of each Session, the participants perform two Showcases in front of a live audience at the Barnsdall Theatre in Hollywood. Following a 6-8 week break, the process begins anew, so that the Program operates virtually throughout the year. It is a positive testimony to the Program that approximately 80% of the participants return for successive Sessions. This has enabled the Staff to form extremely close relationships with many of the children and their caregivers and to become actively involved in helping the children define and pursue realistic life goals. In furtherance of this goal, AAK has established a voluntary program entitled B.E.A.C.O.N., which stands for Building Educational And Career Opportunties Now. B.E.A.C.O.N. is available to all participants in AAK who are in grades 9-12. (For additional information, visit the B.E.A.C.O.N. tab on this website.)
